The Davis Story Continues
The Founding Bet
When the Davis Chamber incorporated in 1905, the town was called Davisville and had fewer than 1,000 residents. The chamber's first campaign was for a state agricultural college. That bet created a research university now educating 41,239 students annually. In 1967, Davis installed America's first bike lanes, launching a culture of innovation that defines the city to this day.
Community Capital
Today, 337 member businesses form the backbone of a city that punches far above its weight. Nugget Markets made Fortune's 100 Best Companies to Work For. Sudwerk Brewing won the Great American Beer Festival. The Farmers Market celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2026 with 90 vendors and 500,000 annual visitors. The Davis Food Co-op serves 8,000 owner-members.
What Comes Next
A population of 67,000 with the ambition of a city ten times its size. The chamber is building the next chapter through small business grants, SBDC consulting, advocacy at every level of government, and five signature events that bring the entire community to the table. The founding bet paid off. The next one will too.
