The Chamber Is Founded
Business owners organize specifically to lobby for a University Farm. Their campaign works. Davis is selected, and everything changes.
1967
America's First Bike Lane
8th Street gets the nation's first official bike lane. One painted line starts a revolution. Today: 100+ miles of lanes, 25 bike bridges, ~20% commute by bike.
1976
Farmers Market Opens
California's first certified farmers market launches in Central Park. Now approaching its 50th anniversary with ~90 vendors and 500,000 visitors every year.
1984
Nuclear-Free Zone
Davis becomes one of the first cities in America to declare itself a nuclear-free zone. A small town taking a big stand.
2005
Platinum Bicycle City
The League of American Bicyclists awards Davis its highest honor: Platinum status. Only the second city in history to earn it.
2021
Brewery of the Year
Sudwerk Brewing takes home Great American Beer Festival Brewery of the Year. A Davis original, crafting lagers since 1989.
2026
50th Farmers Market
Half a century of local food, live music, and community gathering. The Davis Farmers Market turns 50, still growing, still the heart of Saturday mornings.
